2nd Annual Clean Sweep Wallkill
Our 2nd annual CLEAN SWEEP WALLKILL was a bigger success than last year! We met SATURDAY, APRIL 21ST at 9:00 a.m. Volunteers for cleaning the streets and roads of the town met in front of the Wallkill Library at 9:00 a.m. where gloves, bags, reflective vests and water were distributed.
Volunteers cleaning the river met at the Popp Memorial Pavilion in Wallkill on route 208 near Stewart’s. There were two groups- one group of kayakers “fished” trash out of the river while the other group walked the shores to gather trash there; waging a two front assault on the town's garbage.
After the clean up was complete, we all met at the Popp Memorial Pavilion for a cookout. In town there were all sorts of events going on for Earth Day. The birds of prey exhibit was sponsored by the Wallkill Teacher's Association in conjunction with our Clean Sweep efforts and was fantastic- see the pictures below if you missed it.
If you missed out in 2012, get active and join us in 2013 and help CLEAN SWEEP WALLKILL!
The Environmental Council of the town of Shawangunk hosted an Earth Day event which we collaborated with. Local enviornmental vendors were present and the Walllkill Teachers Association sponsored Bill Robinson and his Bird's of Prey Presentation.
A special thanks to all of the local businesses for their support and donated to the bbq afterwards: Hannaford of Modena, Chela's, Weber's Hardware, Rob's Pizza, Stewarts of Wallkill, The Dollar Store of Pine Bush, Thruway Market, Wallkill Police and the Wallkill Public Library.
